Today we wanted to change it up and share our own personal photos with you! Like many couples, we let so many years slip by without bothering to document ourselves and our relationship beyond iphone photos. (and let me be honest. my iphone photos look absoutely no better than yours... in fact mine are probably worse...don't ever ask me to take them!) Our wedding photos from seven years ago are amazing and we love them (maybe I'll share them in a future post), but we've grown and changed and matured so much since that they're no longer an accurate representation of who we are now.
Plus as business owners we were starting to feel the need to have some fantastic lifestyle headshots to represent our brand and photography. So it was definitely time to get in front of the camera again!
Genevieve Renee is probably one of my favourite photographers in Calgary. I've admired her work through social media and other industry connections for a while, but we didn't actually meet until The Bash 2017. After chatting with her for a little while about life and raising kids while running a photography business, we knew she was the one we wanted to hire to take our photos. And let me tell you, she was amazing!
We've always been big about encouraging and helping our clients in the time leading up to and during our photo sessions, but being on the receiving end of it was SOOO good!!! She gave me feedback and ideas about my outfit choices and made the whole experience so easy. It was definitely a fantastic experience (and I can't wait to do it again in the future!)
For anyone that doesn't know us or our style, we love the light. We love to create images that are light and airy and filled with love and connection. I (Lisa) have a strong visual design background so I always approach images from a design perspective. We really wanted neutral backdrops that would fit both our wedding photography brand and our own personal home and decor. The beautiful European inspired buildings in downtown Calgary were the perfect fit for us as we love European style. We went to Paris for our honeymoon and to this day it is still one of our favourite places. When Genevieve suggested doing some photos at La Boulangerie on 4th St, we totally jumped at it. And I love how those images turned out. We spend so much of our time together talking and dreaming and encouraging each other that honestly, we feel these images are so perfectly us. And we are so honoured to be able to share a little bit of who we are with you.
